That information is, by everything I'm hearing, probably far more accurate than viewing the "leak" as an unequivocal truth in and of itself.
Expect more dramatic "absences" among other crazy experimental rules (that weren't playtested at the time of the leak's creation) by the time you see "real" 6ed.

Invitational Update, CONFLICT GT Qualifiers and Congrats
Just a quick shout-out / congratulations to
Andrew Gonyo and Alex Fennell
for their successful 1st and 2nd place finishes at the Conflict GT this weekend, and subsequent qualification for the relevant two spots into the 2012 NOVA Invitational.
Andrew bested Alex by a handful of points, and the two actually tied each other halfway through the event. Perhaps a rematch awaits them in August ...

5th Edition vs. 6th Edition for NOVA 2012; PSA
Folks,
Just a quick PSA in response to a few questions we've received. The NOVA plans to play this year as the last major national GT for 5th edition.
The only way this will change is if 6th releases MUCH earlier than July (or even June), because we don't want players who are already committed financially and otherwise to suddenly have to make odd choices about army changes, etc., nor do we want to have every game hung up with "everyone, even the judges, are still learning all the odd rules questions people can come up with."
This is also in part due to the fact that all information we have access to states there's no substantial evidence for what rules will be in 6th at present. The Leak as far as our homework and person-to-person networking can say is not a leak at all, but a fake (or at the very best, an extremely early Alpha full of rules that have since been removed).
So, prepare for the NOVA's 40k GT, Invitational, and Trios event with 5th edition in mind. The NARRATIVE may take pieces of or even entire games from 6th edition *if* it comes out in time, for certain playertypes (i.e. narrative singles vs. doubles).

NOVA Invitational 2012 - Changes and Initial Events Qual List
Good Morning All,
For 2012, there are a few changes to the way the NOVA Invitational will be played and organized.
Instead of having our players participate in 5 games in a single day, all of them tough and high intensity, and then have to compete in 8 more over just 2 days to follow, the changes to the format are as follows:
Rounds 1-3 only are used to determine Best Overall/Renaissance Man. Rounds 4-5 are Final Four elimination rounds.
Round 1 occurs on THURSDAY NIGHT, August 30. Players have no other games that day, so it's a single round on that evening. The game will start at approximately 6:30 and go until 8:30, giving players time to wrap up and get as good a night's sleep as they desire.
Rounds 2-3 occur on Friday MORNING, starting early and wrapping up by noon. At this point, there will be only 4 undefeated participants.
Rounds 4-5 occur Sunday AFTERNOON, after lunch and the culmination of the 40k GT Final Fours (for each of the 16 brackets).
So, an Invitational player who participates in the Invitational *and* the 40k GT will play, at most:
1 game Thursday evening
2 games invitational and 2 games GT on Friday
4 games GT on Saturday
2 games GT finals on Sunday AM and 2 games Invitational finals on Sunday PM
So far, several players have already qualified for the 2012 Invitational, and many more are yet to be determined.

I'm leaving a couple of spots open for a variety of up and coming GTs, hence to be determined before we commit; also looking at West Coast events like the Broadside Bash, etc. There will be several smaller but strongly attended events we'll use to identify alternates, with final fallback on alternates going by performance to returning NOVA Invitational 2011 players who will be at the Open regardless.
The prizes will remain the same this year - $1,000 cash for the Renaissance Man, $1,000 cash for the Tournament Champion. We may tweak the weight of Appearance Score to properly account for only 3 rounds contributing to that score (that meaning, with the way our scoring by percentages work, there's a greater gap between 3-0 and 2-1 than there was between 5-0 and 4-1 last year; as a result, we need to make sure appearance scoring weight goes up a little to properly reflect a true 50-50 split, instead of just an on paper 50-50 split).

Happy New Year, Registration Open - All Events, Narrative Info Upcoming, Sorry for Delays!
Happy New Year, and Happy Holidays to everyone.
2011 saw the NOVA Open go from a 40k and Fantasy GT with 128 players doling out about $6000 in prizes to a full on multi-system vendor containing 400 attendee $40,000 in prizes convention. We're looking to be even more awesome in growth in 2012, with a lot of time spent also polishing and refining the events we already offer.
The entire NOVA staff will be joining to help felt sideboards and tables this upcoming Saturday, in fact ... SIDEBOARDS for you to put your displays and minis and dice and snacks and drinks and the works on while you game. Plus, yet more room between you and fellow gamers.
As for the blog, while I had a terrible December in terms of finding room to post ... we went from just over 100 followers to over 250 ... and I'm grateful to have you all reading through this. Anticipate an ENORMOUS upswing in content for the new year, and new authors. More importantly, look for everyone to help shape and provide input on the development of our new evening gaming system for 40k and other events ... new missions, new formats, new stylings and new plans for you all to help us shape in the same way you as a readership helped shape the development of the now worldwide-used "NOVA Style" of gaming and tournament design.

It's nothing short of our driving spirit to see everyone have another fantastic time this year ... and I also can't wait for all the fabulous times and fantastic memories and friendships I'll build with the NOVA crew and staff getting ready for the next event all winter, spring, and summer.

You will ALL love this - it's built for everything from soft and casual gamers to hardcore competitors, and perhaps most importantly, for your friends and family. Ever have a spouse or a good buddy not want to come with you to your gaming weekend? Well, they'll be able to support and drive the crafting of the narrative story and the success of their spouse or friend's assigned faction by participating in a PHOTO SAFARI of Washington, DC on Saturday, September 1, while most 40k attendees are participating in the 4-round day of the GT. This event is an effective guided tour of some of the touristy awesome and local-known-only best spots in DC, one taken by solving the riddles and puzzles of the challenge, and getting your photo taken at the key spots contained within.
Anyway, much more to come ... can't wait for 2012.
